Jupiter double transit and a straight wall.

Post by jbrannan » Mon Mar 10, 2014 3:38 pm

Had a look at the double transit of Io & Ganymede on Jupiter last night. This was around 8:45pm. Both shadows were clearly visible and was pleased to witness such an event considering the weather we have had the last few months. I did try to capture the event but the images I took were dreadful :(
However, I looked a the moon and noticed what appeared to be a straight line through a crater. I had never noticed this so again I tried to capture it and later did a little research and found I was looking at the "Straight wall" or Rupes Recta in the Mare Nubium region.

I did manage to get an image of this although it is out of focus and looked much better in the eyepiece.
